The Importance of Keeping Your Blog Current

I love to share my thoughts and ideas with our readers via this blog. It’s equally exciting to get feedback from readers; it lets me know what they think about the topics I’ve posted. It also gives me an opportunity to communicate and show gratitude to those who appreciate the time it takes to write on a new subject every week. However, outside of this wonderful interchange, there are several additional reasons why keeping your blog up-to-date is crucial. Here are just a few:

  • SEO – every time you post to your blog, it’s like you’re re-introducing your website to the search engines anew; a pivotal rule of Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Putting out new and consistent content on a regular basis is great to help get and keep your website ranking high on the search engines.
  • Potential Clients Look At Your Blog – Whenever I visit anyone’s website; I look at their blog. It doesn’t matter if I’m shopping for products or services, if I see that there’s a blog, I’ll visit. Your potential clients are doing the same thing when they visit your website. Imagine if they visit and your most recent blog post is several weeks or months old. It sends a clear message that someone isn’t minding the store, as they should.  Many service based businesses like mine, offer to assist other businesses with blog maintenance; so if our blog is out of date, that wouldn’t instill confidence in a potential client.
  • Staying top of mind as a “Thought Leader” in your field – Blogging allows you to share your thoughts on things that are going on in your industry and/or things that you deal with daily as a business owner. Sharing your thoughts on these issues helps to cement you as a “Thought Leader” in your field. You are helping others with problems they may face and being consistent in your blogging allows you to position your blog as the go-to place to help solve their problems.

I’d love for you to add to the list. Share your thoughts on the reasons you should keep your blog posts current.

  1. Wonderful insight, Shilonda! I would also think that an up-to-date, regular blog strengthens the relationship which you have with your clients. In this virtual reality, we place as much emphasis on virtual relationships as we do on physical relationships, and as such regular blogs foster the same ‘connectedness’ and ‘reachableness’ that a phone call or a visit would, leaving your clients with the feeling that you are never far away. I think regular blogs are the ‘coffee dates’ of the 21st Century. . . . . . . 🙂

    Keep them coming!!

    1. Hi there Gillian!

I love the “coffee” dates analogy! You really put some thought behind that one, I really appreciate when you share your thoughts with our readers Gillian. Thanks so much!

  2. Thank you Shilonda for opening my eyes on this matter. To be honest I have been a bit reluctant on starting a blog, because I am afraid of hashing over the same topics that so many VA’s have written about. But you and Gillian are right, it really needs to be done. I guess now its a matter of getting my thoughts in line in order to make sure its something fresh like you do every week.

    1. Teri your honesty is totally refreshing!

Honestly, writing the blog post every week is one of the things that has stressed me out from time to time, but you know what I just decided to write about what I’m dealing with and it has been a help to others. I know for a fact that you’ve had to deal with situations that can be tactfully written about as well. The good and the bad. LOL 🙂 I totally value the input that both you and Gillian always provide on my post for our readers and as I mentioned in the article one of the benefits of blogging regularly is engaging with awesome freelancers like you both!
