“Keeping up with the Joneses” is a statement that means you feel you need to follow and do what everyone else is doing. It’s a statement that is far removed from me, the way I live and the way I run my business. So how does the statement “Keeping up with the Joneses” relate to business?
There will never be an end to new software programs or gadgets that you’ll want to examine. So you may feel the need to “keep up” with what you think everyone else is doing or has on their website. However, always be sure that the programs you may be looking to implement will actually streamline your processes and not make them more time consuming. If you’re adding a new program or feature, will it help bring in money or simply require more time/money to maintain. For this reason alone, I never try to keep up with the Joneses. It’s not a good business idea. If you are already successful in your industry, modifying current processes and procedures may be all you need to grow your business.
